No, I didn't quit taking pictures...I just had a baby!

Well, it seems that some folks think I have left the human rat race and am no longer working...nope, not the case.  I am alive and kicking and still taking pictures for a living.  So, if you heard that I wasn't, you were misinformed and I am sorry!

I am working 3 days during the week and 2-3 Saturdays each month.  This allows me time to stay home with Jac a couple days during the week, which at her age, is great for both of us.  I am fortunate that I am able to stay with her right now and that I have in-laws that care for her while I am working.  For this, I am thankful every day.

I have some events coming up....

Fall/Halloween Special is set for Oct 28th, 29th and 30th.  Limited availability on Saturday, so book now.

Santa Portraits at the Amory Flower Shop will be on Saturday, November 13th and Sunday, November 14th from 1-5p.m. each day.  You do not need an appointment for these sessions.

Winter Wonderland is set for November 30th- December 4th.  You do need an appointment for these sessions.  More details to follow on the background/set up.

For any other portrait needs, please contact me at 662-305-5687, by email at emmie@1kwordsphotography.com or visit the web at www.1kwordsphotography.com

Thanks and I hope to see you soon!

Newborn Specialty Sessions

I am pleased to announce that I will be offering newborn specialty portraits- at your home, in the studio, or outdoors!  I have actually always offered this to customers, but unfortunately, it hasn't picked up like I had hoped it would.  Now that I am a mom, I love to experiment with newborn posing and settings, so I am really encouraging new parents to consider these unique sessions.

Some of the best portraits are taken in the first 2 weeks after a child is born.  They sleep so much and this makes it easier to pose them.  There are tons of unique images we can create- the "stork" sack, "pea in the pod," cute hats, and the list goes on and on.

If you are expecting a child, plan ahead and schedule one of these fun and unique sessions for your newborn!  I can be reached at 662-305-5687 or via email at emmie@1kwordsphotography.com

Senior Summer Special

Summer has arrived- maybe not according to the calendar, but definitely from the heat! I am running a senior special during the months of June, July, and August...Book and pre-pay for your session fee and receive your choice of an extra outfit, 48 wallets, or a FREE 8x10. You don't have to have your appointment during these months, but you have to book it by the deadline of August 15th in order to receive the free stuff (you also have to pay your session fee up front). So, you can go ahead an schedule your session for the Fall in October when the leaves are changing and take advantage of the freebies! Why wait? Sessions will be limited, so take the chance and book it now!

I am also in the process of updating the website with my latest and most fun Senior shots. Being on maternity leave has put me behind, but I am getting everything back in order! Keep checking the web for updates.

Back to Work- April 6th

It's that time again...maternity leave is over and I am heading back to work. I am going to miss being at home with this sweet baby, but I know once I get back in the groove, I will be glad to be taking pictures again!

Now that I am officially a mom, my schedule will not be as flexible as before. Before Jaclyn came along, I could be more accomodating as far as scheduling and work hours, but now, that is different. I can no longer work until 7 p.m. every night. My first priority is to be a mom to Jac. So, being at home to feed her, bathe her and put her to bed will come before taking pictures. That's not to say that I won't have an occasional evening or two that I will have to work after 5 p.m., but it just won't be like before.

As before, my work days during the week will be Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays. I will work some Saturdays and possibly some Wednesday afternoons if needed and if I have a babysitter.

The month of April is already full with appointments and I am still receiving calls regarding Senior portraits. I will try to work with those that are still needing appointments, but I am not sure that I will have openings.

Also, beginning June 1st, I will have a slight price increase on session fees and print prices. I will also be running a summer special- so stay tuned!

Please call me at 662-305-5687 or email me at emmie@1kwordsphotography.com with any questions or to schedule a session!

Maternity Leave- Not Taking Pictures, But Working on Orders...

Well, I have officially started my maternity leave as I await the arrival of Baby Jaclyn. I was hoping to work the first week in January, but unfortunately, I am not able to. I have reached the miserable stage of the pregnancy, which I guess I cannot complain about too much. Overall, I have had a great pregnancy and experience- none of the horrors you hear about.

However, I am very uncomfortable and am keeping an eye on some swelling that keeps happening in one foot. As long as I don't wear shoes and stay off my feet as much as possible, I am fine. But, taking pictures on my feet all day makes that more difficult. So, I have decided to rest as much as possible as we wait. Fortunately, I am not having any problems with my blood pressure.

Currently, I am 80% and a fingertip and my next appointment will be Tuesday, January 5th. They will do another ultrasound to see how much she is weighing. At 33 weeks, she was weighing 5 lbs. 15 oz, so it's possible, she could be a bigger baby.

Although I am not taking pictures right now, I am still working on portrait orders from home- at least until she is born. After her arrival and we return home and get adjusted, I will still be able to work on orders as I can. So, if you had a session prior to Christmas and want to order, please feel free to email me at emmie@1kwordsphotography.com or leave me a message at 662-305-5687. I am periodically checking messages and returning them as soon as I can.

I hope you have a great start to 2010 and I look forward to seeing you in the Spring!
